Sydney Preview

What a great place this is. I've spent the week living at Bondi beach, which, in the winter is fairly un-crowded and just gorgeous. The locals think the water is cold (ha! it was 66F the first day, delightful by California-with-wetsuit standards) and don't go in. Plenty of space for me to flail around with a surfboard. I'll be living near an equally beautiful but less famous bit of coastline. Almost have a place finalized - stay tuned for pics tomorrow :)

The lab I have joined is just great. The head of the lab Michael Ferry is ready to help me learn a whole lot about experimental work in light metals (eg aluminium). I'll be joining the work of two of his postdocs when I get back from Sweden and China in September. Really interesting stuff. More on that later too.
